Marty Friedman

Birthplace: Washington D.C., USA

After performing with bands such as CACOPHONY, Marty Friedman joined MEGADETH in 1990, playing a pivotal role in transforming the band into a global powerhouse with multi-platinum albums. He became a legendary guitarist with a devoted worldwide following during MEGADETH's golden era.

Through frequent live tours in Japan, Marty developed a deep love for Japanese culture. While touring globally, he studied Japanese through distance learning. After leaving MEGADETH, he relocated from Los Angeles to Shinjuku, Tokyo, in 2004 to pursue a new chapter in his career.

In 2005, Marty became a regular on the iconic heavy metal variety show Hebimetasan (TV Tokyo), captivating not only Japanese metal fans but also surprising international audiences through YouTube. The show’s sequel, ROCK FUJIYAMA (2007), continues to receive global attention to this day.

As a one-of-a-kind guitarist and passionate Japan enthusiast, Marty has expanded his talents to composing, producing, and performing on television, radio, commercials, and films. In 2017, the Agency for Cultural Affairs appointed him as a Japanese Heritage Ambassador, allowing him to promote Japanese culture overseas as part of his multifaceted artistic endeavors.

Baroque Japanesque is a Japanese fashion brand inspired by the rich heritage of Shogun and Samurai culture. Drawing on over 1,200 years of traditional motifs, the brand transforms these timeless patterns into modern, genderless designs that honor Japan's historical legacy while embracing global influences. The brand has been showcased at Paris Fashion Week in collaboration with a prestigious New York-based fashion partner and has been featured in numerous international media outlets, solidifying its position as a global ambassador of Japanese culture.
